Diversity recruiting is an accelerated recruiting process aimed towards underrepresented minorities (Black, Hispanic, Native American, LGBTQ, Women). Firms reserve a certain number of spots for diversity candidates; opportunity to attend onsite exploratory programs; candidates can obtain traditionally junior level offers as a sophomore; chance to receive offers earlier.
This is just the normal process aimed towards applicants of all backgrounds and the recruiting timeline is usually around a month after diversity recruiting. While applicants have more time to prepare for interviews, they are also competing in a larger pool of applicants. Furthermore, some banks still focus largely on target school recruiting, so they will get the first grabs before those from non-target institutions.
