Don’t actually use the pictured format.
Multiple Pages: Keep it to one page.
“The only (non-academic) multipage resume I can imagine would be George H.W. Bush: Yale, Military, Congressman, Envoy to China, Head of CIA, VP, President. I wouldn’t begrudge him more than one page.” - Professor Ken Abbott
Non-Concrete Items: Avoid personal statements and soft skills (“Leadership”, “Teamwork”) under the ‘Skills’ section - anything that occupies space while communicating very little.
Formatting: Avoid periods at the end of bullet points, two-line bullets, personal pronouns, and margin errors.
Extensions: Always submit your resumes in a .pdf extension, unless for peer/mentor editing purposes or specified otherwise.
Inconsistency: Make sure the margins are aligned and that formatting is uniform across the lines and throughout the page.
Colorful Designs: Unless you’re applying for a position in the arts, the resume is not the place to express your artistic creativity. Avoid the Google Docs templates.
