Overview

Even with the most refined resume format, it is difficult to secure roles in the industry without any prior experience – a blank resume is an omitted resume.

Student-run programs allow unexperienced undergraduates to gain relevant experience outside of their coursework and display a level of initiative to employers. These experiences can be added under the “Leadership & Activities” section of a resume.

Additionally, peers are more likely to have a relative level of understanding in the amount of experience held and may evaluate factors such as fit heavier than technical.

Unfortunately, student-run programs are limited by capital, time, and experienced members, so in order to ensure a fair distribution of hands-on learning, interviews are set in place to most efficiently allocate existing resources.

Fortunately, Baruch provides a large variety of programs to select from.

Honestly speaking, it’s also not super important which one you choose. What matters more is how you speak about it in an interview.

Student Funds

Overview

For students pursuing the financial services industry, student-run investment funds are a great way to gain practical knowledge, as well as a sense of community at Baruch.

Student Fund Organizational Structure and Division Investment Philosophy

50Five Capital and IMG have vastly different club cultures. It is very important to do one’s own research and networking in this case, as students will receive a different descriptor for each depending on the source of information.

50Five Capital

50Five Capital is a student-run hedge fund at Baruch focusing on a long and short value-investing strategy including equities, fixed income, commodities, and risk management through derivatives; additionally, they host a research team in charge of releasing equity research reports.

Interviews are conducted in a three-stage process, with an application and resume review, followed by a phone call, and concluding with a three round Superday.
